How the Eye Works
The eyes are intricate and remarkable organs that work together to provide us with the sense of sight. Understanding how they function can help you appreciate the complex process that enables us to see the world around us. The journey of light begins as it enters the eye through the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped outer layer of the eye. The cornea serves as the first lens in the eye, bending (refracting) light rays to begin the focusing process. From there, light passes through the pupil, the black circle in the center of the eye. The size of the pupil adjusts in response to the surrounding light — it dilates in low light and constricts in bright light to control how much light enters. Once through the pupil, the light hits the lens
